History Of The Lodge Of Emulation , No. 21 .

of the three Lodges to the year 1826 , so that you will see I have still 70 years to go thro ' , and as I cannot manage much more than a year and a half at a sitting of three or four bonvs , it must still be a long time before AYC can think of printing . ' " Sir Joseph Savory , being prevented by his parliamentary and other duties , from attending the Lodge , was elected an Absent Alember .

STEPHEN CLARK , TREASURER OK THE LODGE OF EMULATION , 17 / 5 —1 / 99-18 97 , Alarch 15 th . — "The following Alotion was moved by Bro . C . Walton SaAvbridge , S . W ., seconded by Bro . Badham , J . D ., and carried unanimously , viz . : ' That the sum

of One Guinea be subscribed from the Funds of the Lodge to Guy ' s Hospital Re-endowment Fund , to supplement the Gift of Five Hundred Guineas voted b y Grand Lodge towards the _ £ i , ooo required for the permanent endowment of a Bed to be named after the Freemasons of England . " Oct . iSth . — " On the Motion of the W . AI . ( H . L . Truman ) ,

seconded by Bro . R . C . Grant , I . P . M ., the following resolution was unanimous !} ' carried , viz . : ' That certain old Emblems be presented by the Lodge to the Museum of the Grand Lodge . ' " A List of the emblems in question is appended to the

foregoing paragraph . These emblems are undoubtedly of considerable age , also very interesting , and almost unique , being cut out of sheet iron and painted so as to represent the various symbols and figures on the Lodge Boards of the first and second degrees . I think it highly probable that they were adopted in place of the old practice in use prior to the

introduction of painted Boards , i . e ., of drawing the emblems on the lloor of the Lodge room or on a large board . The only other collection of a similar kind that has come under my notice belongs to the Royal Alpha Lodge , No . 16 . 18 9 8 , Jan . 17 th . — " The Secretary stated it was his painful

duty to report the recent death of three of the old Brethren of the Lodge , viz ., P . AI . Daniel Clarke , a subscribing member for forty-six years , P . AI . Sir Polydore De Keyset - , a member for thirty-five years , and Joseph W . Zambia , P . G . S ., a member for thirty-three years . " The Secretary was directed to convey to the relatives

of the deceased Brethren , the deep regret and condolence of the Lodge . " 1 9 , Jan . 15 th . — "The Secretary , by direction of the W . M ., read a communication from the Grand Secretary Avarning the Brethren against accepting the invitation of , or acknowledging in any way , a Body styling itself the ' Hiram Lodge of London , ' under the Grand Orient of France . "

Feb . 19 th . — " On the motion of Bro . Badham , S . W ., seconded b y Bro . S . Willis , J . W ., it was resolved ' That the carpet and kneeling stool recommended by the Audit Committee should be purchased at a cost of £ ^ 10 s . and £ 1 15 s . respectively . '" March 19 th . — " Bro . Sawbridge , P . M ., moved ' That the

sum of Twenty Guineas be paid out of the Lodge Funds to the South African Alasonic Relief Fund , and that the Treasurer be , and is hereby , authorised to pay the same immediately . ' This was seconded by Bro . Evans , I . P . M ., and carried unanimously . " 1 9 , Jan . 21 st . — " Bro . Truman , P . M ., proposed , and

Bro . Sawbridge , P . M ., seconded the following resolution : 'That in consideration of Bro . Charles , the I . P . M ., having installed his successor to the entire satisfaction of the Brethren , and also carried out the duties of Alaster during the past year with much credit and ability , the Lodge do present him with a Past Master ' s J CAVCI , suitably inscribed ,

and that the Treasurer be authorized to purchase the same out of the Lodge funds , ' which was unanimousl y carried . " " The W . AI . then presented the jewel lo Bro . Charles , who thanked the Lodge for this proof of their satisfaction with his year of office . "

Hitherto it appears not to have been customary in the Lodge of Emulation to present Past Master ' s Jewels , except upon very rare occasions ; the last previous recipient of this honour being George Henekey , who was Alaster in 18 35 and 1836 , and made several valuable presents to the Lodge .
