In the division of profits 27 per cent , was allowed in reduction of premiums , or 29 | per cent , reversionary bonus , at the option of the members . At the meeting of the United Kingdom Assurance Association it was reported that the

Sir John Dean Paul , Strahan , & Co ., have presented in the Court of Bankruptcy a balance sheet of their affairs for the last five years , shewing liabilities to the extent of £ 237 , 183 15 s . 4 c / ., to meet which there was only the sum of £ 6285 Ss . 10

Secretary of the Deposit Life Assurance Company , named C . W . W . Bevan , having been found guilty of stealing orders for various sums of money , the property of his employers , has been sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment . Jeremiah Foley who was mentioned in our last as having been committed for the murder of Hannah Bell , at Limehouse , has been sentenced to 14 years' transportation . A fiendish case of child murder , lately tried at the Old Bailey has resulted , in a sentence of twelve months ' imprisonment on the unnatural mother , Sarah Sturgess , who starved the infant ,

although she bad an abundant supply of its natural food . A gang of burglars , for some months past the terror of the county of Essex , has been effectually broken up by the conviction of several of its ring leaders , at the Chelmsford assizes . At Phillipstown depot , there has been a dangerous entente of the convicts . A monster nugget , weighing 851 bs ., was landed at Liverpool on the 28 th of June , from the Lightning , one of the Black Ball line of clipper ships , trading to Australia .
