mat before my door , he Avould run to me and dirty my face Avith the end of his trunk , and if I AVOUM not rise up and run and play Avith him , he Avould endeavour to roll over me , and I Avas then obliged to rise , or I Avould have been crushed by the young colossus . Joseph is at present in a

beautiful sola of the royal palace of Bangkok , as one enters the court through the fourth Avestern gate , Avhich is called the Gate of the Lhuangs-Phatout-Lhuang .

It is remarkable Avhat precision characterized this hunt . The animals had been gathered from several hundred leagues distant ; three months had boon occupied in forming the herd and driving it on . The 26 th of April , at four o ' clock , Avas the time appointed , and on that day , at exactly ten minutes past four , the elephants passed before us .

A TRUE HISTORY . EROAl NOTES . This grand old Lodge has long been Avorkhw- under a Charter obtained from o Holland in the early days of the Knickerbockers , and it is not therefore strange that its membership is a large one . It

may not be so , but it seems that the most of them Avere selected to membership in the Order because of their natural inherent lethargy and special carelessness , for the most of them have ahvays been noted for these things .
