the formation of a code of By-LaAvs , twelve in number , and AAdiich are entered in the first minute book Avith the signature of every member admitted doAvn to 1816 . These alone are a curiosity in their Avay , and no doubt suitable to the position of the Order at that period ; they are as follows : —

"RULES AND ORDERS WHICH " Are punctually to bo observed and kept by the Most Ancient and " Honourable K . T . of the E . E . in Manchester , Lancashire .

"We the E . G . C . the S . G . C . the J . G . C . and the rest of the H . K . T . " of this E . E . have mutually agreed to the following articles made the 6 th . "day of June , A . D . 1786 . A . C . K . 1754 . A . L . 5790 . 1 st . " That there shall he a E . E . held at Convenient House in Manchester

any , " or elsewhere in the County of Lancashire , as shall he agreed upon by the " Three G-. C . and the other Members , and shall continue at that House so " long as the Members of the E . E . said shall think proper . 2 nd .

" That the E . E . shall consist of the E . G . C . the S . G . C . and J . G . C . or their " Substitutes , together Avith as many Members all S . K . T . as shall ho eonsistant " with Good Harmony and for carrying on the work of their G . G . C . 3 rd . " That there shall be a Box provided and Kept with Three locks to contain

" tho Warrant and other Materials of the E . E . which box shall be lodged " at tho House when the E . E . meet , and the Keys thereof shall bo Kept , " One by each G . C . 4 th . " That the time of Meeting shall be on the 3 rd . Tuesday in every Callendar " Month at 6 o ' clock in the evening and to sit til Nine when the B . S . K . T .

" shall attend and be clothed in their proper Hahilamcnts and Insignia and " shall deposit 1 / - each , cightpenee of which shall pay the expenses of tlie " night , and the other fourpence shall be approuriated as a general fund " for the uses of the E . E .
